Humpback whales are regular visitors to the Bay of Samaná. Each year, from mid-January to mid-April, they migrate from the Arctic to mate and give birth in these protected waters along the Dominican Republic’s east coast. They have wintered in this region for centuries, as shown by ancient Taíno cave paintings in Los Haitises National Park. Known for their lively behavior and singing, humpback whales can reach up to 15 meters in length and weigh up to 30 tons.
Our tour begins taking the new road on one of our modern equipped transport, an hour road trip watching the countryside along the coast and the range Anamuya & heading to the fishermen town of Cañitas.
Take place in our confortable boat and enjoy the ride to the sanctuary of the Humpback Whales. We sail to Cayo Levantado, a beautiful island in the middle of the blue and turquoise water of Samaná Bay and enjoy a lunch on the beach. Take some time off to relax and swim before the ride back to Cañitas.
